About Renew NC

Renew NC was created by the Division of Community Revitalization (DCR) to offer programs that address unmet hurricane recovery needs in western North Carolina, including housing, infrastructure, and economic revitalization. The programs will be funded through a $1.4 billion Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Prescreening and Open Applications

Prescreening Opportunities

Renew NC is offering a prescreening opportunity to help potential applicants prepare for specific program application. The process provides an opportunity for potential applicants to identify and develop a CDBG-DR project in a technical assistance environment. While not required for program application submission, prescreening is strongly encouraged.

Open Program Applications

The following Renew NC programs are currently accepting applications:

  • The Commercial District Revitalization Program is accepting applications through August 4, 2026. This program is for eligible local governments and nonprofit organizations to revitalize designated commercial districts damaged by Hurricane Helene.
  • The Small Rental Rehabilitation Program is open and accepting applications. This program helps eligible rental property owners (landlords) repair, reconstruct, or replace small rental properties (1-4 units) damaged by Hurricane Helene.
